How to Protect Your Digital Privacy at Work

PRIVACY AND FREEDOM
One of the most frequently asked questions we receive at Reagan.com is: “Does a person have a right to privacy at work?” And the answer is yes and no. We’re not trying to be funny or vague with our answer to this question. But there is no black-and-white answer—it’s fairly gray.
Presently, it is not uncommon for employers to monitor, screen and track employees' company-related email, phone conversations, movements and locations. While this may seem reasonable when it comes to company-owned equipment (phones, cell phones, vehicles) and business-related communications (emails, texts, faxes), many organizations are starting to encroach on their employees’ personal privacy. The monitoring has moved beyond business-related outlets and extended into employees’ own private communications.
Below, we’ll discuss some of the ways many businesses may be privy to personal information.
Three Common Types of Workplace Surveillance
Social Media Monitoring
Many employers are relying on third-party firms to perform background checks on prospective employees’ social media accounts. If the results indicate that a candidate posts content that the employer finds objectionable, they can prevent the person from moving forward in the hiring process. Companies can also dismiss existing employees if they discover content that they find objectionable on that employee’s personal (not business-related) social media page.
Email Monitoring
While it's perfectly reasonable for companies to monitor their business-owned email accounts (it is their business after all), most employees would consider it an invasion of privacy for their employer to access their personal email accounts. However, a company can monitor most anything that is accessed through its computer system. That includes an employee’s personal email account.
How is that possible? Many courts have ruled that, although the email account is the employee’s own personal account, they are accessing it using company-owned computers, servers, and equipment. So, if you’re sending an email to a spouse, friend or family member from your own personal email account, but you’re doing so on your work computer, your employer can read it - legally.
Personal Phone
Do you use your personal smartphone to access your company email account? If so, you probably signed away some of your personal rights. When employers ask their employees to use their personal phones for business purposes, most do not have any issues with that arrangement. Yet, most employees do not read the small print on the “use your own device” waivers that the employer asks them to sign. If they did, the employees would realize that, in order to guard their confidential business information, most employers ask their employees to waive their personal privacy. That means an employer can monitor and even erase information on an employee's personal phone if they feel that their confidential business information was compromised.
How You Can Protect Your Privacy
It’s bad enough that you have to protect your personal email and information from cybercriminals and computer hackers. Now, you have to potentially protect the privacy of your personal information at work, too!
While this news is frustrating, there is a way you can protect your privacy—relying on a private email service like Reagan.com. Our service provides greater privacy and protection of your personal information by using SSL and TLS encryption standards. While some employers may think it’s okay to read private communications and restrict access to personal accounts, Reagan.com doesn’t agree. Our country was founded on the principles of protecting personal freedom and rejecting tyranny. President Ronald Reagan upheld those principles. And just like our namesake, Reagan.com vows to uphold those principles, too.

I have endlessly tried to contact a member of your team about a serious disfunction with my reagan mail. Someone has hacked my account and flooded my sent messages with vulgar content so that my max emails limit has topped out and I cannot send any messages. Also, there is no where I can see to be able to at least change my password.
Worst of all, you have masked anyway to contact support to deal with this serious problem. I'm using this for what I'm sure you're intending to handle new customer questions.
In short, your customer support is atrocious. If, by some miracle, this is actually received from some member of your team, please call back (540-420-9139) or contact on either, wdslee@reagan.com, wdslee@gmail.com, or wdslee22@yahoo.com

You really need to communicate with the users if there is down time expected, or an upgrade. I have been unable to access my email for an hour now and I was in the queue only 1 person behind and then got dumped to "leave a message". Either tell us something is wrong or answer your support. I will not be renewing.

Hello I am having trouble logging into my email I need to renew my subscription.
I'm not able to login or reset my password (i didn't forget it either). -

I have been hacked and there is no way to contact a person to rectify the issue. When I submit a "Support" request it does not complete and it tells me to check my email. If I could check my email there wouldn't be a problem. I have had my account for numerous years and cannot believe that this is happening.

My subscription is up for renewal. I have a feeling the expitation date on my credit card has changed. It says to go to the member area. However my name and password are not working at that page. I can find no place to call someone!

WERE ARE YOU?????
I can not get any tech support. I have trued the NED HELP box 1.2 a dozen times now and tried to do a ticket???
No one emails me, my account is screwed up. It keeps logging me off, I have had to reset my pass word 7 times now just to re establish my email. If i try to log into a different computer, forget it. It does not recognize my pass word and them will not let me log in to my main computer without resetting my pass word.
I have left my phone number multiple times 530-209-9591 which is currently working.
I need to know what in the hell is going on. there is no online chat either, I have used it in the past but now its MIA.
Also, the reagan APP for my android is MIA, What is going on????
Do I need to jump ship, after 20 years of doing business. You know what a pain in the ass this will be???

I used to have an account with you it was (rg_mantei@reagan.com). You started wanting more money for me to sign in, now you are charging me for another year at the old price. Well, I no longer have the account with you, so I want that money returned to my credit card account and it had better get there in the next couple of days.

How very disappointing not to be able to sign in to get one's email nor have a way to get in touch with a technician or someone who knows/cares about the site and the consequences of not being able to access one's accounts, especially test results and appointments on My Chart. Your advertising statement, that follows mocks our conservative strength: "Carry on Ronald Reagan's tradition of support for personal freedom and conservative values by signing up for your own Reagan.com email address. Our secure private email service will keep your information and personal communications safe."
Since I can not access my email, I have no way to contact you for help with it; but sadly I read other comments that also state their writers had no response from you either. I think that Ronald Reagan would be very disappointed if he were here today. He was an honest man.

I used to love Reagan.com. Now I am not sure there is anyone behind it. I have been trying for several days to get help with NO response from any one. All of your articles are old. I have been asked to change my password several times and have done so. What do I have to do to get help? I have left multiple messages. Nothing. My e-mail would not up load for days on my computer. that seems to have 'fixed' itself. My phone did NOT update. I removed the app but now can't reinstall it. I really don' think President Reagan would appreciate your work ethic. CAN I GET SOME HELP? PLEASE??? I am praying for you.
